Union Chapel, Islington

religious

Union Chapel is defined by a towering Victorian Gothic facade and a sprawling octagonal floor plan that dominates its corner of Compton Terrace. Built between eighteen seventy-five and eighteen seventy-seven to replace an earlier structure, the chapel was the work of architect James Cubitt, who drew inspiration from the eleventh-century church of Santa Fosca in Venice. The building cost over forty-seven thousand pounds, a massive sum at the time, and was designed to seat seventeen hundred people.
