King’s Cross

King’s Cross Station is identifiable by its monumental yellow brick facade, which features twin arched windows and an Italianate clock tower. Opened in eighteen fifty-two as the London terminus for the Great Northern Railway, the building was designed by architect Lewis Cubitt to be a masterwork of rational, functional design. It replaced a temporary wooden station that had been quickly constructed two years prior to manage the arrival of the rail line.
