Gordon Square

Gordon Square is defined by its informal layout of serpentine gravel paths and scattered trees, a distinct departure from the rigid geometric patterns typical of other nearby London squares. Developed in the eighteen twenties by master builder Thomas Cubitt, the square was named for Lady Georgiana Gordon, the second wife of the sixth Duke of Bedford. While originally intended for the upper middle class, the square eventually transitioned into an intellectual hub for the University of London, which maintains the central garden today.
