Chinatown Central Plaza

Chinatown Central Plaza is the pedestrian heart of this neighborhood, recognizable by the buildings with curved tiled roofs, red columns, and brightly painted facades. Opened on June twenty-fifth, nineteen thirty-eight, it was developed by the Los Angeles Chinatown Corporation to provide a new home after the original Chinatown, located at the site of today's Union Station, was condemned for redevelopment. This space stands as the first modern American Chinatown planned and owned by Chinese Americans.
