Cosco Busan oil spill

On the morning of November seventh, two thousand seven, the container ship Cosco Busan struck the Delta Tower of the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge in dense fog. The collision tore a hundred-foot gash in the ship’s hull, releasing over fifty-three thousand gallons of heavy bunker fuel into the water. This site marks the point where the vessel allided with the bridge fender, an incident that quickly spread oil across the San Francisco Bay and along nearly one hundred miles of shoreline.
