Memorial plaque Howard Street

At the intersection of the Embarcadero and Howard Street, a cluster of six bronze plaques is embedded directly into the sidewalk. Arranged in a grid, these markers feature an arrow pointing toward the street and historical details honoring William Davis Merry Howard. Howard was a prominent nineteenth-century figure who arrived in California in eighteen forty-five and became a key landowner and philanthropist in the early days of Yerba Buena, the settlement that would become San Francisco.
