Coit Tower

Coit Tower is a two hundred and ten-foot fluted pillar of unpainted, reinforced concrete crowning the peak of Telegraph Hill. Built between nineteen thirty-two and nineteen thirty-three, the Art Deco structure serves as a landmark overlooking the city and the bay. While its cylindrical silhouette often leads visitors to imagine it mimics the shape of a fire hose nozzle, the design was actually an interpretation of the donor’s simple wish to beautify the city.
