Hercules (1907 ship)

The Hercules is a one hundred fifty-one-foot steel tugboat, easily identified by her rugged, industrial silhouette and the triple-expansion steam engine still housed within her hull. Built in nineteen oh seven by John H. Dialogue and Sons in Camden, New Jersey, she was commissioned by the San Francisco-based Shipowners’ and Merchants’ Tugboat Company for their Red Stack Fleet. Her first task was a thirteen-thousand-mile voyage from the East Coast to the Pacific, a journey she completed by towing her own sister ship, the Goliah, around the tip of South America through the Strait of Magellan.
