The C.A. Thayer is a three-masted schooner built in eighteen ninety-five at a shipyard near Eureka, California. You can identify her by her distinct bald-headed rigging, which lacks topmasts and allows her crew to manage her sails directly from the deck. She was designed specifically for the Pacific Coast lumber trade, with a shallow hull that could navigate the hazardous, narrow coastal ports known as dog-holes.
