San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park

The San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park is identifiable by a white, ship-like building that overlooks the bay. This structure, designed in the nineteen thirties in a Streamline Moderne style, once served as a public bathhouse. It is part of the Aquatic Park Historic District, a collection of waterfront sites that includes a curved pier and a beach cove. Beyond this landmark building, the park preserves a fleet of historic vessels that were once vital to the commerce and transit of the Pacific Coast, ranging from large square-rigged sailing ships to steam-powered ferryboats.
