The Bay Lights shimmer across the western span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge as a massive, generative light sculpture. Spanning one point eight miles, the installation features thousands of white, individually programmable light-emitting diodes attached to the bridge's vertical steel support cables. These lights move in choreographed, abstract sequences that never exactly repeat, mirroring the rhythmic flow of water, weather, and traffic across the bay.
