The fifty-five-foot long steel sculpture known as Echoes—A Voice from Uncharted Waters rises from the Ferry Terminal Plaza along the Embarcadero. Created by artist and designer Mathias Gmachl, this installation takes the form of a life-sized blue whale. Its structure is composed of industrial steel, fashioned to evoke the presence of the massive marine mammal within the city’s dense waterfront landscape.
