Thomas Jefferson Memorial

The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is a circular, open-air structure on the south bank of the Tidal Basin. Defined by fifty-four Ionic columns supporting a shallow marble dome, the building draws its design directly from the ancient Roman Pantheon and Jefferson’s own architectural work at the University of Virginia. Inside, a nineteen-foot bronze statue of Jefferson gazes north toward the White House.
