Bancroft Elementary School

Bancroft Elementary School is defined by the way its campus climbs a steep, uneven hillside in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood. To handle the jagged terrain, architects designed a central interior spine they call the Calle Mayor, or Main Street, which uses ramps and elevators to bridge the varying floor levels between five historic buildings dating to the nineteen twenties and the modern additions that wrap around them.
