The Barnacle Historic State Park

The Barnacle Historic State Park contains a low, wooden house raised on pilings, positioned among the trees of a tropical hardwood hammock. Built in eighteen ninety-one, this structure is the oldest house in Miami-Dade County still standing in its original location. It was constructed by Ralph Middleton Munroe, a yacht designer and early resident who arrived in the area when travel to and from Miami relied almost entirely on boat traffic across Biscayne Bay.
