The Gondola Rides at The Venetian are marked by the sight of handcrafted, black-painted vessels gliding through man-made waterways. These canals run both inside the Grand Canal Shoppes and along the resort's exterior near Las Vegas Boulevard, passing beneath replicas of arched Venetian bridges and ornate architecture. They debuted with the opening of The Venetian on May third, nineteen ninety-nine, as part of a one point five billion dollar project designed to recreate the atmosphere of fifteenth and sixteenth-century Venice in the Nevada desert.
