Minton's Playhouse occupies the ground floor of the Cecil Hotel on West One Hundred Eighteenth Street. You can identify the entrance by a small plaque near the door at two hundred six West One Hundred Eighteenth Street. Founded in nineteen thirty-eight by tenor saxophonist Henry Minton, the club served as a late-night sanctuary for professional musicians looking for a place to play and eat after their regular shifts at larger venues.
