The Hotel Theresa is recognizable by its thirteen-story, white terra-cotta facade that rises at the corner of Adam Clayton Powell Junior Boulevard and West One Hundred and Twenty-fourth Street. When it opened in nineteen thirteen, the steel-framed building was the tallest in Harlem, a status it maintained for sixty years. German-born stockbroker Gustavus Sidenberg commissioned the architects George and Edward Blum to design the hotel, and he named the structure after his wife.
