The Beehive House is distinguished by the large, carved beehive sculpture perched atop its roof. Built in eighteen fifty-four, this adobe and sandstone mansion served as the executive residence for Brigham Young, the second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the first governor of the Utah Territory. Its architect, Truman O. Angell, designed the home to accommodate Young's large family and to serve as a formal setting for receiving territorial visitors.
