The Gallivan Center is a four-acre public plaza defined by a sunken ice rink in the winter and a grass amphitheater during the warmer months. It sits in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, surrounded by the vertical glass and steel of modern office towers. The plaza occupies a space once known as Block Fifty-Seven, which was a collection of aging buildings and parking lots before the city's redevelopment agency cleared the site in the early nineteen-eighties.
