The Lion House is identifiable by the large, stone statue of a reclining lion perched above its front entrance. Built in eighteen fifty-six, this three-story home was designed by Truman Osborn Angell for Brigham Young, the second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the first territorial governor of Utah. Constructed from stuccoed adobe, the house features twenty gables to accommodate the twenty small bedrooms intended for Young's large family.
