Union Pacific Depot

other

The Union Pacific Depot is a sandstone structure built in the French Second Empire style, identifiable by its grand exterior and historical association with early twentieth-century railroad travel. Completed in nineteen oh nine for four hundred fifty thousand dollars, the building was a joint venture between the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad and the Oregon Short Line. Architects D. J. Patterson and John D. Isaacs designed the station to provide a direct route to Southern California, ending a period of intense rivalry between railroad magnates William Andrews Clark and E. H. Harriman.
