Museum of Wine-Making named after Khovrenko

The Khovrenko Museum of Winemaking occupies a late nineteenth-century house on Mahmud Qoshgariy Street. This building once belonged to Dmitry Filatov, a Russian merchant who arrived in Samarkand in the eighteen sixties and established the first winery in the region. Facing the arrival of the Soviet era, Filatov hid a massive collection of his best wines within the cellar walls to keep them from being seized.
