Church Of St. Alexius Metropolitan Of Moscow

The Church of St. Alexius Metropolitan of Moscow is built of light-colored brick and marked by an unusual green arch at its entrance. Consecrated in nineteen twelve, the building was designed by architect Fyodor Verzhbitsky and military engineer Fyodor Smirnov to serve as a garrison church for the Russian troops stationed in Samarkand. It represents a standardized model for military religious structures of the early twentieth century across the Turkestan region, intended for efficiency, high capacity, and modest cost.
