The Opinel boutique on Rue Filaterie is marked by the distinctive emblem of a crowned hand, the same symbol stamped onto the blades of the millions of folding knives produced by the Savoyard company since eighteen ninety. Inside this space in the old town, the shelves hold the various iterations of the wooden-handled knife that Joseph Opinel first crafted as a simple tool for local farmers and laborers in his family’s workshop.
