Église Notre-Dame des Otages

The Church of Notre-Dame des Otages features an exterior sculpture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus over its portal, watched over by stone angels. Located at eighty-one rue Haxo, this building replaced several earlier temporary chapels to commemorate the fifty people executed on this very ground on May twenty-sixth, eighteen hundred and seventy-one. Those victims included ten priests and religious figures, thirty-six police officers or gendarmes, and four civilians, all killed during the final days of the Paris Commune.
