Fort de Romainville

historic

The Fort de Romainville stands out on the horizon because of a one-hundred-forty-three-meter television tower that rises from within its nineteenth-century walls. Built between eighteen forty-four and eighteen forty-eight as part of the defensive ring around Paris, the military structure follows a Vauban-style design that once spanned twenty hectares of land. While its name recalls the commune of Romainville, the fort has been located in Les Lilas since eighteen sixty-seven.
