Marko 93 is a French street artist born in Le Mans who rose to prominence within the hip-hop culture emerging in the northern suburbs of Paris during the late nineteen eighties. He developed a signature aesthetic he calls calligraphism, an abstract style that merges the thick and thin strokes of traditional Arabic calligraphy with the spontaneous, energetic lettering of New York graffiti. His technique often involves trimming spray paint caps to achieve precise lines, a method he adapted from the use of the calame, the traditional reed pen.
