Fontaine aux Lions

The Fontaine aux Lions de Nubie is identifiable by the eight cast-iron lions that guard its basins, each one captured in a sphinx-like pose with water spouting from its mouth. Designed by the engineer Pierre-Simon Girard, this structure was first erected in eighteen eleven to stand at the center of what was then the Place du Château d’Eau, now known as the Place de la République.
