The Aimé Césaire Garden is identifiable by the metal grilles that enclose the space along Rue Danton. It sits within a large, historic cité-jardin, or garden city, that spans the borders of Le Pré-Saint-Gervais, Pantin, and Les Lilas. Construction of this surrounding residential area began in nineteen twenty-seven, utilizing land shaped by the earth excavated during the building of the Paris Métro and local water projects.
