The Château de l’Étang is a nineteenth-century bourgeois house standing at the intersection of rue François-Mitterrand and rue Sadi-Carnot. While its name suggests a waterfront estate, the pond that once defined the property disappeared long ago. The site was originally a clay pit where rainwater and natural springs gathered, eventually forming a reservoir that for years supplied water to a local soap factory and the elaborate fountains of the historic Bagnolet château belonging to the Duchesse d’Orléans.
