Church of Saint-Nicolas-des-Champs

The Church of Saint-Nicolas-des-Champs stands ninety meters long, defined by its square, blocky bell tower that rises thirty-two meters above the street. Construction on this site began in fourteen twenty, during the Hundred Years' War, to replace a smaller chapel that once served the servants of the nearby Saint-Martin-des-Champs monastery. While the church now sits firmly within the city, its name recalls its original position in the open fields beyond the medieval walls of Paris.
