Square Antoine-Blondin is a quiet, enclosed garden tucked behind the apartment buildings of the Saint-Blaise district. It takes its name from the novelist and journalist Antoine Blondin, who was famous for his whimsical sports columns for the newspaper L'Équipe and his nineteen fifty-nine novel, Un singe en hiver. The square was laid out in nineteen eighty-eight by the architect Bertrand de Tourtier as part of a major urban renewal project intended to reshape the historic village of Charonne.
