Parc Valmer sits on a promontory along the Corniche Kennedy, defined by a lush, one point six hectare landscape of exotic and Mediterranean plants that overlook the sea. At the heart of the grounds stands the Villa Valmer, a neo-Renaissance building constructed in eighteen sixty-five for Charles Gounelle, a wealthy oil merchant from Salon-de-Provence. Originally named Vague à la mer, a title eventually contracted to Valmer, the house served as a summer residence for Gounelle, who filled his gardens with plants collected during his travels across the Mediterranean.
