Monopteros im Englischen Garten

The Monopteros is a sixteen-meter-tall, circular temple in the Greek style, easily identified by its ten columns of Kelheim limestone and its painted dome of red, green, and gold. It sits atop an artificial hill in the southern part of the English Garden, a landscape that was intentionally created to elevate the structure for panoramic views of the city center. Built between eighteen thirty-three and eighteen thirty-seven, the temple was designed by the architect Leo von Klenze at the request of King Ludwig the First to honor Bavarian figures.
