St. Michael München

St. Michael’s Church in Munich is recognizable by its grand facade, which displays bronze statues of Wittelsbach rulers arranged like a family tree. Between the two main entrances, a large bronze statue depicts the Archangel Michael triumphing over a demon. Built between fifteen eighty-three and fifteen ninety-seven by Duke Wilhelm the Fifth, this is the largest Renaissance church north of the Alps. It served as a spiritual center for the Counter-Reformation in Bavaria, intentionally modeled after the Jesuit mother church in Rome.
