The National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens, known as EMΣT, is instantly recognizable by its long, low-slung, industrial concrete profile that stretches parallel to Syngrou Avenue. This building is a prominent relic of post-war Greek modernism, originally designed in nineteen fifty-seven by the architect Takis Zenetos. For decades, it functioned as the massive, high-capacity FIX brewery, an Athenian landmark that provided the city with beer for over a century.
