The Jamali Kamali Mosque and Tomb is defined by its five arched openings in red sandstone, which increase in size toward a central, domed prayer hall. Constructed between fifteen twenty-eight and fifteen twenty-nine during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Babur, the site consists of a mosque and an adjacent, flat-roofed mausoleum. The structures are decorated with intricate calligraphy and colored tile work that once led observers to describe entering the tomb chamber as stepping into a jewel box.
