Sassoon Dock Jetty

The entrance to Sassoon Dock is marked by a distinctive clock tower, designed and manufactured by the London-based clockmaker Sir John Bennett. This stone gateway serves as the threshold to Mumbai’s oldest wet dock, which was formally inaugurated on June eighth, eighteen seventy-five. Built on reclaimed land by the Baghdadi Jewish merchant Albert Abdullah David Sassoon, the facility was originally constructed to capitalize on the shipping boom that followed the opening of the Suez Canal.
