Rabindra Sadan is a cultural complex defined by its sprawling main auditorium, which features a large stage capable of seating twelve hundred people. Established by the Government of West Bengal, the center was built to honor the birth centenary of the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone for the site on August fifth, nineteen sixty-one.
