Omoide Yokocho Memory Lane

Omoide Yokocho, or Memory Lane, is a narrow warren of stalls defined by the glow of red lanterns and the thick, aromatic smoke of charcoal grills rising from tiny, open-fronted shops. Located near the west exit of Shinjuku Station, this cluster of roughly sixty cramped eateries maintains the layout of the post-war era, with many stalls no larger than a few counter seats separated by thin partitions.
