Glorieta del Ahuehuete

The Glorieta del Ahuehuete is a prominent traffic roundabout on Paseo de la Reforma, recognizable by the single, towering Montezuma cypress tree standing at its center. This circle was included in the original eighteen sixty-five plan for the boulevard, commissioned during the reign of Emperor Maximilian. For over a century, the space was defined by a Canary Island palm tree, which became a familiar landmark to residents. Following the death of that palm due to disease in twenty twenty-two, city officials conducted a public vote to determine its replacement.
