Monument to Cuauhtémoc

The Monument to Cuauhtémoc stands as a tall stone pedestal topped by a bronze statue of the last Aztec emperor, identifiable by his elaborate ceremonial penacho and the spear he carries. Dedicated in eighteen eighty-seven, the monument is positioned at the intersection of Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida de los Insurgentes. Its base is designed with decorative friezes inspired by ancient architecture from the archaeological sites of Mitla and Uxmal, while the statue itself blends indigenous iconography with the academic Greco-Roman style popular in the late nineteenth century.
