Santuario Nuestra Sra de Guadalupe

The Santuario Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in downtown Cancún is marked by a history that grew from the humblest of origins. Decades ago, long before the area’s rapid urbanization, local faithful gathered at a modest chapel in the Colonia Puerto Juárez. This original structure, known as the Capilla de Fátima, was crafted from bahareque—a traditional mixture of cane, sticks, earth, straw, and palm leaves—and was tended to by Maryknoll missionaries who traveled from Isla Mujeres to hold mass for the sparse, scattered population of the territory.
