Amsterdam University Library

The Amsterdam University Library is a collection housed in modern academic facilities, though its origins trace back to the aftermath of the city's fifteen seventy-eight transition to Protestant governance. Following that shift, books and manuscripts from Catholic institutions were gathered into a public collection. These early volumes were initially kept in the Nieuwe Kerk and later moved to the attics of the Agnietenkapel when the Athenaeum Illustre was founded in sixteen thirty-two.
