Runstraat is a narrow street lined with seventeenth-century canal houses, distinguished by its name which translates from Dutch as Cow Street. It is one of the nine small passages that crisscross the western Canal Belt, a network laid out in the first half of the seventeenth century to accommodate the city’s rapid expansion and its flourishing trade.
