Hulbert House is a Victorian villa on Ballarat Street, recognizable by its steep, elevated position and traditional timber architecture overlooking downtown Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu. Built in eighteen eighty-eight, the house was originally the private residence of gold trader Horatio Nelson Firth. Its history reflects the cycles of the town, shifting through various uses over the decades, including as a private nursing home, a maternity hospital, and eventually a backpackers' hostel before its restoration into a luxury boutique lodge in twenty sixteen.
