Yuqian Pingtan Tea House sits in the Gusu District, a neighborhood where the history of Suzhou remains rooted in its traditional teahouse culture. This space is dedicated to Pingtan, a performance art form that originated in the city during the Song Dynasty. Pingtan pairs storytelling and ballad singing in the local Wu dialect, typically performed by one or two artists playing a pipa lute or a sanxian three-stringed instrument.
