Grand Post Office

The Grand Post Office, or Büyük Postane, stands out for the two turrets that rise above its corners and the broad stairs leading up to its main entrance. Built between nineteen oh five and nineteen oh nine, it was designed by the architect Vedat Tek to serve as the Ministry of Post and Telegraph for the Ottoman Empire. Its facade of cut stone and marble is marked by a tiled panel above the door, which still bears an inscription in the old Ottoman script identifying the building by its original purpose.
