Column of Constantine

historic

The Column of Constantine is defined by the heavy iron hoops cinched tightly around its stack of massive purple porphyry drums. Standing nearly thirty-five meters tall, this monument commemorates the inauguration of Constantinople as the new Roman capital in three hundred thirty. It is the oldest Constantinian structure to survive in the city, occupying what was once the center of a grand, circular forum.
